Banyuwangi (ANTARA) - Indonesia will soon have a sophisticated warship missile "Trimaran" which is a domestic product.
"This ship is made of carbon fiber, with a speed of 35 knots and is armed missile has a range of 120 kilometers," said Deputy Defense Minister Sjafrie after reviewing the domestic shipbuilding industry PT Lundin Industry Invest in Banyuwangi, East Java, on Tuesday.
He said, in the next five months advanced warship which is a prototype that can be operated directly strengthen the ranks of the Navy fleet combat.
"Navy ordered four ships, and in the next five months has become one Trimaran warship` `, while the other three units will be built in stages until 2014," said Sjafrie added.
One unit of the ship "Trimaran" valued around Rp114 billion taken from the Budget 2011.
"If a procurement project is successful then this is the history for Indonesia because it has managed to build ships of war with carbon fiber composites, and this will be patented and exported overseas," said Sjafrie.
Director of PT Lundin Industry Invest, John Lundin, said it has conducted tests on the ship with a length of about 62.52 meters.
"This is the first ship` `Trimaran made from carbon fiber. Americans have made similar ship with a length of 120 meters but from aluminum or steel.
Carbon fiber composites have also been used for the manufacture of Boeing-777 airbus aircraft and Formula 1 cars. Resistance 20 times stronger than steel.
